Snapper, rock lobster, eels, abalone, bream, flathead, garfish, King George whiting and calamari are all sustainable seafood choices for consumers in Victoria as recommended by the DPI. We recommend avoiding imported fish, deep sea fish and shark. Make enquiries when purchasing fish as to whether the source is a known sustainable source. Download the Sustainable Seafood Guide for your phone so you can make an informed choice when shopping.
Further resources can be found at The Australian Marine Conservation Society on sustainable seafood and many other marine issues such as whaling, the Great Barrier Reef and exhausted oceans.
