Energy Storage and Battery Ready Solar

Home battery storage systems have been getting their fair share of media exposure lately, the Tesla Powerwall battery launch got everyone talking and a number of energy storage companies are targeting Australia as a key market to launch their products into. Over the past few years we’ve also seen some rather large electricity price increases and many electricity retailers have gotten away with treating their customers like dirt. Combine this with low solar feed in tariffs, a large amount of residential solar installations and a climate with its fair share of sunlight and you’ve got a recipe for a battery storage revolution. News from Paris

The Moreland Energy Foundation’s CEO, Paul Murfitt, is currently in Paris at the UN’s Climate Change Conference and has recently sent back a report highlighting some of the inspiring happenings as well as some of the hurdles yet to overcome. Read the report from Moreland Energy Foundation bulletin

You can also sign this Avaaz petition encouraging China, South Africa, Brazil and India to join the coalition of 100 rich and poor countries keen to push through an ambitious clean energy deal.

Be a Waste Warrior

Nightjar markets are looking for waste warriors- Duties include: Recycling and composting education, waste collection, interacting with festival crowd, inspiring environmental change in the community. Must be passionate about sustainability and be confident to engage with the public! Training will be provided. You will need to be available on Thursdays in January 2016 and would be rostered from 5:30pm – 8:30pm, (includes a short dinner break).  Benefits include free entry to festival and free meal token. It’s Christmas Party Time!

Danawa and SCEG members (and their families) are invited to celebrate Christmas at the Danawa Community Gardens. Come along and share a great evening with friendly, fun and eco-minded people that all have a genuine passion for sustainability, supporting local businesses, creativity, gardening and home grown goodness.
As well as a great feast there will also be children’s activities, a wishing tree, Christmas raffle, a bonfire and drumming by the talented people from Wild Moves.
Date: Sun 20th December
Time: 6pm
Place: Danawa Community Gardens (near Torquay football oval & tennis courts), 2 Great Ocean Rd, Torquay VIC 3128
Bring: A homegrown/homemade/locally produced salad or dessert,Chairs to sit on, Drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
Your Christmas spirit!
Turkey, ham and roast potatoes will be supplied
We also encourage you to bring along a wrapped gift (with gender tag on it) or some non-perishable food which Danawa and SCEG will donate to the local food bank/charity.

Membership renewal reminder!

Another quick reminder that SCEG membership fees were due by November 1.
You can pay by direct deposit, via our website by credit card or paypal, post a cheque to us or pay in person.

Get involved:

SCEG Committee meetings are the second Tuesday of the month 7pm at TOPS (The Old Police Station) in Price st Torquay. Next meeting January.12 2016.SCEG Community Solar Group usually meets the 3rd Monday of each month 7pm at TOPS but the last meeting for the month will be on Wednesday 16 December, 11.30am- 1.30pm at TOPS. BYO lunch for a special brainstorm session.
