Surfer, quizmaster and ocean lover Anthony Hill is touring Australia holding presentations in schools and Family Trivia Nights to raise awareness and educate communities on the growing problem of plastic pollution.
His social enterprise, PLASTIC POLLUTION SOLUTIONS has successfully held over 90 events around Australia and will be based on the Surf Coast during February and March. Anthony’s campaign to raise awareness of the damage plastic pollution is causing to our environment started in Sydney in September 2014, and Anthony has now held over 90 events in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria with attendances regularly around 200 people.
Surf Coast Shire Council and Plastic Bag Free Torquay are working on programs and initiatives that are reducing the amount of single use plastic consumption across the Surf Coast and are supporting Plastic Pollution Solution’s visit to the Surf Coast. Anthony will be presenting to schools in the region about the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and holding a number of Trivia Nights that will also raise funds for local initiatives. These entertaining and engaging activities will be an important step in raising awareness of what each individual Surf Coast resident can do to help transition our communities to a lower plastic consumption and lower waste region.
The first of these events is a Family Trivia Night at the Lorne SLSC on Saturday, 13th February starting at 5:30 pm with a sausage sizzle with Trivia commencing at 6.30pm. Individuals are welcome, families are welcome, businesses can make up a team of employees or just grab your friends. The cover charge for the Trivia Night is $10 adults, $5 kids or $20 for a family of 5 with funds raised going to the Spirit Foundation to support those affected by the recent bushfires.
The trivia questions are general knowledge questions for people of all ages. A slideshow raising awareness of the plastics issue will be running during the evening while eyebrow-raising facts about the impact plastic pollution is having on the state of our oceans are presented.
Ideas on ways that we can reduce the amount of plastic pollution entering our marine environment will be presented and projects and initiative that the community can take on to combat the issue will also be discussed.
